Chapter 5 Hyojeong for Heaven / Be the Light of the World
The Path We Should Take
Although True Father is in the spirit world, he is always with us. He exists without corporeal form, but he never leaves our side even for a moment. What do you think he desires from us at this time? He desires that we march forward without pausing. God’s providence has to continue throughout the world until, with True Parents as the center, love and peace overflow, a culture of heart settles, and a new order is established. Moreover, from the victory of Foundation Day, we should advance further to offer great glory to Heaven and to True Parents, and to instill great hope as we stand before the world and before all of history. Unification Church originated from divine spirit and the truth. It has developed as a church overflowing with love, where Shim Jeong springs forth as the years go by. … In the beginning, when Father was carrying out his ministry, once members came to the church, they never wanted to leave. They wanted to stay with Father, even if it meant staying up all night. If there was anything Father wanted done, those members wanted to do it for him, voluntarily and willingly. The life of faith our members led at the time was like that. So, though ours was a small church, it was overflowing with love, and we united and overcame the most difficult of times. … We need to continue giving Divine Principle lectures in our churches. People need to be reborn through the teachings. When such individuals, families, tribes, peoples and nations can practice true love, that is where Cheon II Guk is. That is the kingdom of heaven on earth. (True Mother, Oct. 1, 2012)
We must pray and report wishes at Jeongshinwon (Cheongshinwon) as a place where humanity can always experience to attend True Parents, and where we can interact with the spirit world so that all 7.7 billion people in the world can know about them. We must pray so that True Father, who has gone to the spirit world, can walk even further ahead. The earth is important. We must resolve the difficult North-South and Japan-Korea relationships. We must create an environment on earth that will allow the spirit world to move. The Jeongshinwon (Cheongshinwon) is a place where we can attend True Father and be with him 365 days a year. If we offer our prayers and sincerity, it will be realized. We must attend True Father, Hyo Jin Nim, Heung Jin Nim and Dae Mo Nim, and all members should become one in love centered on Jeongshinwon (Cheongshinwon). We have established Father’s dignity through the seven-year course. From now on, we must unify the north and south. Father must stand directly and mobilize the spirit world to unify the north and south. Only then can we strongly advance the restoration of the world. The Jeongshinwon (Cheongshinwon) must become the mainstream of the providence and unify the north and south. (True Mother, June 8, 2020）
I have said that the Family Federation must now advance based on two pillars: the Holy Spirit and the Truth. You need to offer a lot of Cheon Shim Won prayer. There are still a lot of obstacles in the way of achieving a heavenly unified Korea and a heavenly unified world. You must offer your devotion. (True Mother, February 6, 2023)
That’s why I have been saying that we will work with a dual system of Cheon Shim Won and the Family Federation working together as one. Why is prayer at Cheon Shim Won important? We are saying that Father in the spirit world should come forward to expand the environment that Heavenly Parent needs. This is Father’s desire and humanity’s desire. Therefore, you all should pray to True Father fervently at Cheon Shim Won. You will visit this place today. Pray, “Please be with us, Father. Please show us the power of Heaven.” Do you understand? The hope we share with our Heavenly Parent is that there will not be a single person on the earth who does not know about our Heavenly Parent. It is our responsibility to make this happen. We have to merit the titles of filial child and patriot by making a life-and-death determination and marching forward with utmost effort. Witnessing as Creation of Environment
‘Let us become true owners of Cheon Il Guk who practice true love in resemblance to our Creator, the Heavenly Parent!’ We shouldn’t forget Heavenly Parent in our daily life. During our earthly life, we should preserve the Earth well which Heavenly Parent, the Creator made. What we need to focus on is witnessing. We need to preserve well this beautiful world of creation in which our Heavenly Parent invested utmost effort, by expanding the reach of our foundation. (True Mother, January 1, 2014)
True Father completed and accomplished the providence of restoration through indemnity. He opened Cheon Il Guk. It is up to us to create the environment for Cheon Il Guk. It is not possible to turn heaven and earth upside down overnight. What is important is how much we devote ourselves to embrace our brothers and sisters, our clans, our nations and our neighbors with love. They are the fruits of our witnessing. Think only about how you are going to offer one more life to Heaven, even to the extent of forgetting to eat and sleep. You are all blessed members and you probably all have children; so you know how marvelous it is and how much you anticipate the birth of each new life. You can feel Heaven’s blessings in that moment. If you can give birth to one new life each day with your own effort, then you will receive a great blessing. How did you live on earth for God’s will, centering on the words of True Father? What kind of environment did you create? How earnestly did you try to save as many lives as possible, shedding many tears for the fulfillment of God’s will and the restoration of humankind? Our goal is to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on earth and in heaven, and the fastest way to get there is for us to establish true families. This means the perfection of the ideal family. If this is the case, then families must become one centered on love. We must be reborn through the words of God and True Parents, centered on love, so that the barriers between husband and wife, parents and children, and tribes disappear, and we must create an environment like God and like True Parents. The creation of an environment is done through your witnessing. When God created heaven and earth, He said, “Let there be light.” He began with the mineral world, and then created higher animals from small microorganisms, taking time at each stage. And finally, He created Adam and Eve, whom He loved the most and wanted to make into His own bodies. That was God’s ideal. That was the ideal of the family and of heaven. In this way, God created an environment for Adam and Eve. This also applies to you. We must create an environment to build Cheon Il Guk. We must witness. This is a responsibility that we cannot avoid. We cannot pass it on to anyone else. (True Mother, December 25, 2014）
You have received blessings difficult even to cope with; yet, the more you share them, the greater they become. The environment of the person that shares one’s blessings through true love will expand. The blessing blesses that position; however, you should not remain idle in that position; you must grow. We can express “growth” in other terms, such as “fulfilling one’s responsibility.” … You must fulfill your tribal messiah responsibility to put down big and deep roots. That means you must witness. You must expand your environmental realm. The root of an individual or that of a family can shake with the wind. However, if the roots of a tribe that centers on you grow down together, those roots will not budge even if a powerful tsunami were to pass over them. (True Mother, March 18, 2015)
We must make sure that the second generation are raised in a good environment. In order for them to be able to grow up pure, beautiful and well within God’s will, the parents must create the environment. Therefore, in school and in society, we must make sure that they can proudly say that they are the second and third generation of True Parents. We must raise them with pride. They are our hope. You did not receive blessings so that you alone would be successful in life. Actually, since you were called first, before others, you have to strive to transform the families of your brothers and sisters around the world so that they resemble your family. You blessed families need to propagate heavenly fortune by transforming other families to become like yours. Heavenly fortune has no place for selfish motivation. To ride it, you should bring peace and harmony within your family and then unite all other families by bringing peace and harmony to them. Becoming Filial son and daughter of Heaven
If human beings were not originally fallen, they would have grown up well in a good world and received God’s love and blessing and become children who could understand God’s heart. Therefore, we must complete the heart relationship so that God can say, “You are filial sons and daughters who can inherit my heart.” If you cannot understand God’s heart, you cannot become filial sons and daughters. You must know what kind of path God has walked. You must then prepare the original form of Adam and Eve that is raised before the idea of Creation. (April 24, 1960)
So, what is God’s wish? It is to save the world. What are God’s circumstances? It is that He wants to love his sons and daughters. What is God’s wish for love? It is that He wants to live intoxicated by that love. Therefore, you must understand God’s wish, circumstances and heart. If you don’t understand these, you cannot become a filial child. This is the core ideology of the Unification Church. If you want to know God’s circumstances, is it okay if you don’t know whether God exists or not? If you don’t know what God’s wishes are, can you become a filial child? If you don’t know whether God’s heart is sad or happy, can you become a filial child? This is completely impossible. The path to becoming a filial child is simple. The path to becoming a filial child is to take responsibility for your parents’ suffering. (September 10, 1972)
Rather than someone who tries to fulfill the duty of filial piety while doing easy things in an easy position, the person in charge of trying to fulfill it in an infinitely difficult position, the person who takes on such a position, the son or daughter who takes on such a position, is the person who has entered the path of the filial child. There is no doubt about that. When you look at it like this, God is concerned about global issues, so it goes without saying that if there is someone who wants to take responsibility for global issues, that person is in a position that is closer to being recognized by God than any other people or any other ethnic group in the world. Therefore, we can conclude that the position of a filial child is “a representative position that tries to take responsibility for the tragic things that the parents have suffered.” Even if good things happen, they must always take responsibility for the bad things, and this is the path that filial children must follow. In a living environment where many people around you, you are attending to their parents and being filial, it is not difficult to be filial to your parents. However, when many people reject their parents and try to avoid the path they must take, even if they were to give up their only life, if they were to stand in a position to live for their parents on the path they must take, then they would have fulfilled the duty of filial piety in a position that transcends their circumstances. Therefore, we know well that such people must be recognized as filial children. (March 4, 1971)
God’s will for the world must be left behind, and God’s love for the world must be left behind. Therefore, you must leave these things behind even after you die. You must know that those who sacrifice their own lives to leave these things behind become filial children and patriots. There is no need for a filial child or a patriot for a single day. No matter how bad a robber is, he can become a filial child for a day, and anyone can also become a patriot for a day. If you repent on the spot, you can become one. God wants people who can be born as filial children and patriots, live as filial children and patriots, and then die as filial children and patriots. Because I have been doing this work for my whole life. However, I never think that I have fulfilled the duties of a filial child. The more I walk, the more I feel that I’m not enough. Those who think they have fulfilled the duties of a filial child, or a patriot are finished as a filial child or a patriot there. Those who resist by saying, “I am a filial child, I am a patriot, so why don’t you understand me?” are those who retreat from that mountain pass. You must know that only those who discover that the more they walk, the more duties of filial piety remain, and the more they walk, the more duties of patriot remain, and who live their lives with fulfilling that filial piety as their own philosophy of life, can become filial children and patriots of heaven. Tears are flowing from God’s eyes; red blood is surging in His heart. Yet the blood vessels through which His blood should be flowing are clogged, and He is brought low as if at the point of death. I am resolved to liberate this suffering God by following the way of a filial son, patriot, world saint and divine son. And after I have done all that, and God comes and embraces me and says with tears, “You have worked hard,” still I will have to say, “I have done nothing.” I turn away to shed my own tears only after I have dried God’s tears. The hope of all humankind is to meet the True Parents. This encounter with the True Parents is the fruit of history, the center of this age and the foundation for the future. You who are engrafted to them will become their branches. Up to this point, all the hopes of the ages in history have focused on the future, but the opportunity to connect with True Parents during your lifetime happens only once in eternity. This is a precious chance that comes only once. Your ancestors did not have it; nor will your descendants. Your hopes do not lie anywhere else. You are to become the devoted sons and daughters of the True Parents. In the future, the True Parents will hold the position of the King of kings on earth. That is why the place where you meet True Parents is the center where all hopes come to fruition, be it the hope of humanity, the hope of history or the hope of the present era. Your hopes do not lie elsewhere. (20, Section 1, Chapter 2, Book 2, Cheon Seong Gyeong, The Holy Scripture of Cheon Il Guk)
You are now living in the golden age blessed by Heaven, which can only come once in your lives as well as once in history. Therefore, you need to work hard so that the record of honor will read: “You have fulfilled your responsibilities. Heaven’s blessings and grace are overflowing in your families, your nations and the world. You are Heavenly Parent’s true children, who made this possible.” Please know that the moment when this is recorded will be an unforgettable moment of eternal blessing for all of you. You must spread forth a movement that attends God in your family, society, nation and the world. This is the way for all of you who live in the world today to become filial children and loyal subjects in front of our Heavenly Parent. I am saying we must all become God’s true children. Keep in mind that the One who shows us the right path to get there is the Savior and True Parents. I pray that all of you can unite and become the people who will realize God’s dream, humanity’s wish. (True Mother, November 30, 2016)
Realizing the World of One Human Family with Hyojeong
Filial devotion is a pre-eminent practical virtue as well as an eternal pillar of life. We must practice filial devotion while our parents are alive. After they are gone, no matter how much we want to sacrifice for them, it will be too late. We must know how precious this moment is and be proud of it. (P262, Mother of Peace)
If we were to capture the distinctive feature of the Unifi cation movement in one phrase, it would be “the culture of fi lial heart.” “Filial heart,” for which I coined the Korean word, “hyojeong,” signifi es sincere devotion and love toward our Heavenly Parent. “Heart,” for which 154 Mother of Peace my husband coined the Korean word, “shimjeong,” is the essence of beauty and original root of love. It is beauty that stimulates love to surge forth eternally. The culture of heart transcends time and space. In the world where God’s will has been realized, a pure and immaculate culture of heart will flow forth like a river and waft like a breeze through all forms of artistic creativity. God wants divine sons and daughters. The world wants saints. Nations want loyal subjects and patriots, and families want filial children. Whatever the level, they are all on the straight and genuine path of truth. No true parents would tell their child, “Since you have become a filial child, do not become a patriot; do not follow that path.” Rather, they would teach their filial child by saying, “Even if you have to sacrifice our family, you should follow the path of a patriot and serve the nation; even if you have to sacrifice the nation, you should fulfill the duties of a saint; even if you have to sacrifice the world, you should go the way of a divine son or daughter as Heaven desires; and even if you have to sacrifice heaven and earth, you should seek to fulfill God’s Will.” Until this day, no one even knew that such a concept existed. We have to invest and make sacrifices. Otherwise we can never realize the one united world, the one kingdom. Actually, my favorite flower is the daffodil, which is the first to blossom from frozen soil when spring comes. It makes me think about how I can comfort the heart of our Heavenly Parent, who is looking upon human history and how it has become wretched and agonizing through the fall. The daffodil is the first to break through the frozen soil and tell the world that spring has come. Looking at it, I am reminded of how I am still weak and how much I have been restricted by my environment in carrying out my responsibilities as the True Parent during the past sixty years. And yet, I did not stop, and as a result, there are many allies like you on my side today. Thank you. Let us all endeavor to become the true children of our Heavenly Parent through True Parents, who can work together as filial sons and daughters to make His dream and wish come true on earth. Heaven is the place where we enter as a family; and, even if the husband has good faith, he cannot go to Heaven by himself. It is the husband and the wife that goes together; and, that place is the Kingdom of Heaven. Do you understand? If we can realize such a world, we do not have to worry about teenage pregnancy or immorality. Our original mind will resonate with Heaven; and, we will be within the cultural sphere of ‘Hyo Jeong.’ I hope that we can all realize such a world. All of you are the young people of Asia. I hope we can stand proud and become the heroes and pioneers of this noble task. Our wish is one unified world of peace. It is not far away. It begins with one family in my nation. By practicing the true love and living for the sake of others. That is the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. … Now, we are all one family centering on True Parents! The dream of Heavenly Parent and the wish of humanity consists of realizing one family under God; and, as we march toward that day, I hope that you can all take great, courageous leaps forward!
